Bereft
There's no football on tonight - or tommorow night. What am I going to do.
Any suggestions?

Selective amnesia
On the way home from the pub - some of us had been there to play pool after the match - we met a geordie bloke. As we walked up the road with him I asked him why he had come to live in Bristol. I can't remember what he said because I was drunk.

I do remember asking him what it was like up north. He told us that we'd get loads of girls with our accents.
That bit stuck in my mind.

...two halfs.
On the one hand... I'm thinking and talking about football most of the time at the moment and I'm frustrated with my nearest and dearest who hates it.
On the other hand...when I hear people talking about football who seem to know little or nothing about it... I wish they wouldn't bother.

Match Analysis
People who talk about football tactics and strategy - what's it all about?. This my interpretation. I think that deep down, on some fundamental level - they are discussing and describing different ways of playing a football match?
Any other interpretations?

Excuse me
Then later - in a pub - after having watched the football, my friend had left and I was waiting for my son to return from the loo - a man came up to me and said
"Excuse me - I'm just trying to beg some money to get home" and I said
"Sorry"
And he looked at me and asked what the score was in the France game.
And I said "Nil-Nil".
And he went up to someone else and asked for money and they said "No", and the barmaid said
"Oi!" and he got up to leave - and on the way out he stopped and asked someone for money.

Pressure
Five minutes later at the garage I was checking my tyre pressure. I bedraggled man sat by the type pump with a half eaten take away, playing with a twig and a stone.
I ignored him and checked my tyres.

Window Shopping
Waiting at Robertson Rd lights in my car this morning. Man came up to the window and started asking for something. Couldn't understand what he was saying but locked the door in fear. Then he went over to some other car drivers and pedestrians. They all said no or shook their heads or ignored him. I hope that my assumption that he wasn't just asking the way was correct.

Between the lines
A work colleague told me over lunch that her husband had been reading my blog. She thought that the way he had described it – sounded a bit “blokey” for her. I asked what she meant. She said that it was my observations on things that had happened and things that had been said. If she was doing it she would have written about her emotional reactions to things more.
“The emotions are between the lines.” I explained.

Forgetting myself
The other day I went to the pub for an hour with a friend. He had called by unexpectedly while passing through the city where I live. We needed to get out of the house because discussions about religion with a member of my family were getting a bit much.
About 35 minutes into the hour my mobile phone rang. I took the call without thinking because it was the mother of a friend of my son about them meeting up and I wanted it to happen. When I finished (about 5 minutes later) my friend looked pissed off. He was right to be - I shouldn't have taken the call.

Cardiff Bay
This is the inside of the new national assembly Building in Cardiff Bay. It looks like a mushroom.

This is the Millenium Centre.

They say it looks like an armadillo from the side
